Over 30 years old, Aroeira became virtually reclaimed by nature following neglect after the 1974 revolution, but today is regarded as one of the best courses in Portugal. Aroeira 1 was designed by Frank Pennink and is laid out across a landscape of pinewood and wild flowers abundant with birdlife. A past venue of the Men's and Ladies Portuguese Open, this densely forested course has been coined the 'Wentworth of Portugal'.
